The Fifth International MELODI Workshop (www.melodi2013.org) is being organized by SCK•CEN, the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre from October 7-10 2013 in Brussels, capital of Europe. The workshop offers a unique opportunity to update your knowledge and discuss low-dose research issues, as well as to be involved in the MELODI Low Dose Research Platform (www.melodi-online.eu).

The main aim of MELODI being to reach out to the whole radiation protection community, discussions with stakeholders, radiation protection organizations, national authorities are consequently of utmost importance in helping to develop a structured European Radiation Protection Community.  With this in mind, the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) of MELODI was developed and it has evolved continuously during recent years. It is updated regularly and is available for consultation and comment on the MELODI website.

During this particular MELODI 2013 workshop, plenary sessions will focus on topics in which significant breakthrough progress has been made over the past few years, whilst 3 thematic sessions running in parallel will be devoted to more specific research topics related to radiobiology, dosimetry, epidemiology, radiotherapy, radioecology, emergency planning and other fields of low dose research. The parallel sessions will be rounded off by discussions which will serve to keep the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) up-to-date and to further implement it into the various low-dose research groups throughout Europe. Each thematic session will be summarized and presented during the workshop. This particular workshop will therefore adequately complement the topics addressed during the previous editions.

MELODI also aims to recognize talented and promising young scientists (under 35 years old) who have already contributed greatly to low dose research. Therefore, for the second time, a annual MELODI award will be granted.

The workshop will start on 7th of October in the evening, with registration and a General Assembly meeting (invitation only), and will end on 10th of October in the evening. The MELODI Workshop registration desk will be open from 7th October at 7pm.

The DoReMi Network of Excellence funded by the European Commission is supporting the setting up of the Melodi Platform and addresses some of its research needs (www.doremi-noe.net). A specific cross-cutting issue meeting will take place on 7th of October.
